Labor Day, although a holiday for some, is just another day for a server. Working holidays is synonymous with working in a restaurant, and it is usually at the top of the list when it comes to things that waiters/waitress hate.

Here’s a list of 10 things that sum up what its like working on a holiday in a restaurant:

1. Bad tips are a common occurrence, but a bad tip on a holiday is considered a felony.
2. Any extra work beyond your normal scope of daily responsibilities will instantly feel like the most annoying/infuriating thing you’ve done in your entire life.
3. The manager that makes the schedule will NEVER be there on a holiday.
4. All servers working will analyze how long they’ve been there in comparison to others, and complain all day about how the “new guy/girl” somehow got the day off.
5. If you do happen to make it to a holiday party after your shift, the food will be cold when you get there and all the guests will be on their way to blackout-ville, but this will in no way curb your desire to drink heavily to catch up.
6. If you’re lucky enough to have a decent manager, they’ll usually bring in breakfast or something similar to show their appreciation, but in reality you could care less.
7. For some reason, holidays can really bring out the complainers and the customers that you just can’t please. If something isn’t right with their order on such a special day, be prepared to get your head chewed off.
8. You’ll die a little more inside each time you deliver your “Hi, Happy (Insert Holiday Here)!” greeting as the day goes on.
9. You don’t worry about being in a bad mood, because every other person you work with will be right there with you.
10. Walking out of the door at the end of your shift is the best feeling in the world.
