Defend the Restaurant!

On March 2, 2011, in Uncategorized, by admin

I was a lowly cook in a pizza place in a university town many years ago.

During one the ”buffet” nights (read we need to get rid of stuff that’s expired the next day) we had a VERY full house and the waitresses were running around like crazy doing their collective best to serve the pizza we were pushing out at an insane rate.

At one point one the waitresses came to the back crying that some customer kept grabbing her ass and had had enough. The manager told her to stick it out.

The head cook was her boyfriend and made it clear to the manager if this was acceptable he would be grabbing the manager’s wife’s ass.

Suddenly enlightened the manager proceeds to tell the customer enough is enough. The customer pulls a knife in a crowded restaurant. Being the brave soul he was the manager ordered the waitresses in the back and told the kitchen staff we need to defend the restaurant.

Fuck that.

We grabbed the waitresses went out the back and called the cops.
We may swear, act tough and be surely in the kitchen but owners don’t pay us enough to take a blade for the place.

Server Pet Peeve – Business Lunch

On March 2, 2011, in Rude Customer, by admin

I work in a popular chain restaurant, and one thing that I really hate is having to wait on the “Business Trip Lunch” table. This kind of table is categorized by folders on the table, travel cups of coffee they got at their hotel and an utter dis-regard for anything I have to say.

I always get the feeling that they think I’m interrupting their job, by trying to do mine and take their order.

Example: Yesterday, I had a table of 4 businessmen, as I greeted the table to try and get their drink orders, only one of them paid attention to me, while the others continued to ramble on.

In their rambling, I heard on man mention how next time they will take his private jet, and really go somewhere nice for lunch, like the time he took them to Naples.

After all was said and done, the private jet-business suit-Naples lover didn’t even leave me 20 percent.

I hope he tips his pilots better.
