The Server in this story became a personal hero of mine after what she did.
This particular waitress, we’ll call her Susy, was having an extremely busy night in the restaurant we both worked at, and her last table of the night was two older women who were both impossible to please.
When it came time for them to pay their bill, they left around 70 cents for a tip on a 40 dollar bill, and this Susy would not stand for.
She proceeded to follow them out of the restaurant, and just like every other Server in her position has dreamed of doing, actually threw the change back at them.
As a result she was suspended for a month, but in my mind it was totally worth it.

i know who ”susy” was and i remember that!!!!
I dream of the day where I have a great high paying job lined up, but I have one more shift,,,, all the truth would come out…..free flow of what I really think,, cheap bastards, fat pigs (make sure you get that DIET coke), asshole manager, sluts I work with ahhh dare to dream!
Wow.
Yeah what a hero.
Nothing but rude, what a disgrace.
I love how you people feel it is your god given right to be given a ‘decent’ tip.
You’re entitled to nothing but your wage – you are just a servant at the end of the day
Jo, you’re an idiot. They don’t make minimum wage because of the fact that tips are factored in for it.
So get this, in a normal restaurant the waiters and waitresses are making less money from their “wage” than a teenager asking if you want fries with that at McDonalds.
I’ve never been a server or worked in a restaurant and I can understand this. How stupid can someone be?
You said it Ryan. Not sure if Jo is trying to “troll” for comments, but I thought I’d let the community tell her how it really is.
I don’t even waitress myself, and Jo makes MY blood boil. A tip is not an optional “bonus”; it is expected as part of the wage! If someone can afford to eat out, then they can afford the tip too. I don’t care that they were old- some might say “oh, maybe their idea of how far a dollar goes is out of date”- they saw the prices in the menu, so they HAVE accepted inflation. They just figure they can get away with being douchey for whatever stupid reason, and it’s good that they were shown they can’t count on always getting away with it.
I’m glad the management was sympathetic enough to just suspend, not fire this woman. Too bad they didn’t go the extra distance and just let her off scot-free, but understandable.
Jo, I hope someone spits in your food next time you eat out.
Jo is either trolling or massively ignorant. Wait, no… probably trolling AND massively ignorant. Lame.
It is pathetic on the part of the restaurant to pit servers against the patrons. If the tab does not cover the expenses + profit, paying at least the minimum wages for all involved, why not just board up the joint?
The servers agree to work for less than minimum, and then rant against patrons who have nothing to do with whatever inside equations are involved in the business – how duplicitous! I have not heard a single word against any restaurant owner on this site, in spite of the servers being paid less than minimum wage. If it were a different industry, people would have been up in arms.
It is time the restaurants stop this exploitation of their own employees, in the name of tips being factored in the minimum wage. Their sorry ass should be hauled to the slammer if they don’t pay minimum wage. period.
A server who says “I have x number of children to feed at home” is unnecessarily dragging the patron into problems the patron never wanted to get into. That is lack of professionalism on the part of the servers. But this community simply cheers uncouth behavior. Strange, and pathetic!
