admin | Server Nightmares - Bad Tipping and Rude Customer Stories - Part 18

These types of customers don’t feel the need to call ahead, or make a reservation. They will gladly show up with 20 people or more with a birthday cake, ready to be seated.

Now, I have nothing against large tables, it’s usually a guaranteed tip, but the process of putting tables together during the middle of a shift, while you’re already busy can be quite the hassle sometimes.

This is how it usually happens:

2 people from the party will go to the hostess before the party arrives.

Hostess: “Hi, just the 2 of you tonight?”

Customer: “No, actually there’s 20 and a highchair”

Hostess: “Uh, let me see what I can find…”

My favorite rude low-class customer moment happened nearly every shift in every restaurant I served in.

Me: “Hey, how are you doing this evening?”

Customer: “Iced Tea.”

I’ve never felt “iced tea” before, but it doesn’t sound pleasant.

…one of your non-server friends warns you of a plate being way too hot to touch, and you feel the need to pick it up anyway, just to show the superior heat endurance that years of serving has given your hands.
