Manager’s Meal

On August 31, 2010, in Rude Customer, by admin

So at the restaurant I work at, the GM will come in around twice a month and will usually have lunch with some others from the company. They’ll often stay for a few hours, causing me to come back and check on them, refilling drinks, etc. after they finish their meals.

I do this with a smile on my face of course, and what really ticks me off is how little of a tip they always leave. They’re entire bill is comp’ed, and I’ll usually only get a 10 percent tip for my hours of work.

Frustrating to say the least that the people who own a restaurant chain do not even know the proper way to tip.

Boss from Hell

On August 29, 2010, in Restaurant Stories, Venting, by admin

A woman I knew opened a bar/restaurant this past December. We weren’t great friends but I have known her forever.

Anyway, when she opened I picked up a few shifts.

So last night this table comes in. It was 3 women and one of them owned a website that basically features best restaurant, hotels, best things to do, etc in my city.

So the owner sat with them for a while. At the end, the owner comes up to me and says “Don’t give them a check”

So they ask me for a check and I told them there wasn’t one. The website lady said “Are you serious? Then you are getting a nice tip!”

So anyway, their check would have been like $64 and she gave me a $60 tip (she didnt know how much her bill was).

So a few minutes later the owner was like “How much did they give you” and I told her and she said “ok, I want part of that to help offset the check. I don’t want to have to eat that whole thing”

So she basically made me give up $30 of my $60 to pay for the check.

Besides being in complete shock, I am still trying to rationalize this by thinking- well, I probably wouldn’t have gotten a $60 tip if I had presented the table with a check. But even still, I think what she did was completely wrong….

Confused Promotions

On August 25, 2010, in Rude Customer, Venting, by admin

I work at one of the major chain restaurants in the country, and we usually have deals that practically give our food away for free. I’m fine with this, but what annoys me is when people come in asking if we still have a certain promotion they heard about on TV, which was for a completely different restaurant.

Some are OK with it once I explain it, but others see it is an opportunity to give me attitude.

How is it my fault?!

ARTWORK TIP

I must say, this drawing of a dinosaur in a spacesuit is clever enough to count as a tip for me.
